Assignment 4: Podcast

Good afternoon, this is Emily McNally with your academy awards wrap-up. This past Sunday marked the 86th Academy Awards with Ellen DeGeneres as the host. Ellen was up to her normal silly self poking fun at certain celebs as usual.  She even ended up breaking twitter as she posted the most epic selfie later in the night with stars like Brad Pitt, Jennifer Lawrence and Meryl Streep who were included in the photo. The show itself wasn't too much of a surprise concerning the winners. Gravity took home seven awards in the technical category including best director, cinematorgraphy and score. Dallas Buyers Club also did well taking home three awards including Best Actor awarded to Matthew McConaughey who beat out crowd favorite Leonardo DiCaprio who has been nominated four times before and lost everytime. The big winner for the night was 12 Years a Slave winning three awards including the highest honor for Best Picture. It also won best supporting actress for the stunning Lupita Nyong'o, a star to watch. Well this has been it for this segment, tune in next time for the next wrap up.

Assignment 2 Photo Project

1.) Self Introductory Image
I love photography, it is one of my favorite things to do.

Traveling is my other passion. I've always had an obsession with the Eiffel Tower and that's why I got this tattoo.

2.) A newsy event to cover.

This picture was taken during the snowstorm on Wednesday when I was heading up to Colrain MA.

Taken at my mom's friend's sugar shack.  They are starting to make some maple syrup.

3.) Scenes Describing Campus Life
Studying in the stacks at the Library. Where students can often be found on weekdays.

The weekends on campus are often about drinking and socializing and hanging out with all your friends.

4.) Personality/ Character Photos
These are my grandparents and they are both very funny people and this photo depicts some of their humor.

This is my friend Robin Chow from Baruch College in New York. She also loves photography and we went on a photo adventure when she visited last weekend.

5.) Any topic: Favorite Type of Photograph
Landscape photos are my favorite to shoot. These are the mountains near Westfield after the recent snowstorm with the snow blowing off in the wind looking like mist.

These are the woods near Montgomery MA before the giant snowstorm last Wednesday.

Intel and Twitter

Intel is a company that produces computer processors, blue tooth chips and other technological electronic items.  This company is highly reliant on social media networks to promote their products.  Their twitter page 2.69 million followers and tweets daily.  I don't follow them but they ended up being shown on my twitter feed because they use twitter to promote themselves.  It's like watching tv and having a commercial but now its reading your twitter feed and having an advertisement as one of the tweets.  One of their more recent tweets was promoting their new video ad and stating if they had 2,900 retweets of it they would donate $30k to a nonprofit organization called No Barriers USA which helps disabled and non disabled people live the active lifestyle they wish to live.  This tweet was only 3 hours old and had already had nearly 1000 retweets.  Even though the company isn't outright advertising for themselves it still makes people curious and look at these videos and these tweets which brings attention to the company.  Which is exactly what companies do now through social media.  Intel is a great example of this new type of social media company relationship.
